چکیده

We discuss the shape and strength of the emission bands observed in Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) spectra of three carbon-rich evolved stars (Beintema et al. 1996a). The emission bands, due to stretching and bending modes of CC and C-H bonds in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), show large difference in strength and shape, depending on the excitation temperature and size distribution. We find that HR 4049 shows remarkable structure in the major bands (3.3, 6.2, ’7.7’, 8.6 and 11.3 m) and probably has small, ionized, hydrogen-rich and highly excited PAHs. In contrast, the Planetary Nebulae IRAS21282+5050 and NGC 7027 show a larger abundance of neutral PAHs and plateau emission near 7-8 and 11-12 m, probably due to larger molecules. The population of PAHs in HR 4049 probably has a different evolutionary history than those in the planetary nebulae.

The characteristics of the IR emission features in the spectra of Herbig Ae stars: Evidence for chemical evolution

Context. Infrared (IR) spectra provide a prime tool to study the characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules in regions of star formation. Herbig Ae/Be stars are a class of young pre-main sequence stellar objects of intermediate mass. They are known to have varying amounts of natal cloud material still present in their direct vicinity. Aims. We characterise the IR emissio...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS ISO spectroscopy of circumstellar dust in 14 Herbig Ae/Be systems: towards an understanding of dust processing. Abstract. We present Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) spectra of fourteen isolated Herbig Ae/Be (HAEBE) stars, to study the characteristics of their circumstellar dust. These spectra show large star-to-star differences, in the emission features of both carbo...

Protoplanetary disks around Herbig Ae / Be stars : Indications from ISO spectroscopy

An analysis of solid-state features in infrared spectra of 46 Herbig Ae/Be stars is presented. The presence of solid-state emission bands is compared to other indicators of circumstellar material, such as Hα emission, optical variability and sub-mm continuum fluxes. The correlation between these different indicators is weak, if present at all, in our sample. However, a strong dependence on spec...

On the Excitation and Formation of Circumstellar Fullerenes

We compare and analyze the Spitzer mid-infrared spectrum of three fullerene-rich planetary nebulae in the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds; Tc1, SMP SMC 16, and SMP LMC 56. The three planetary nebulae share many spectroscopic similarities. The strongest circumstellar emission bands correspond to the infrared active vibrational modes of the fullerene species C60 and little or no emission is p...

PAHs in Circumstellar Disks around Herbig Ae/Be stars

We investigate the presence and properties of PAHs on the surface of circumstellar disks around Herbig Ae/Be stars by comparing the predictions of disk models with observations. We present results of a radiation transfer code for disks heated by the central star, in hydrostatic equilibrium in the vertical direction (flared disks). The dust is a mixture of large grains in thermal equilibrium, tr...
